Hazelnut Butter and Orange Truffles

Receiving chocolates as a gift is always a welcome surprise, but when you receive homemade chocolates as a gift, it's even better! This is THE ultimate gift truffle recipe for your loved ones. All the ingredients are natural and healthy using a base of Medjool dates and rich hazelnut butter. Roll these in your favourite toppings, like: shredded coconut, goji berries, cacao, pistachios...whatever your heart desires!

How It's Made


  • 15 Medjool dates, pits removed
  • 1 tablespoon of hazelnut butter
  • Juice and zest of half an orange (about 1/4 cup)
  • 1 tablespoon of cacao powder
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence
  • 1/4 cup of roasted nuts (almonds, hazelnuts, pecans...)
  • 3/4 cup of dark chocolate chunks
  • A pinch of himalayan sea salt


Choose your garnish: Shredded coconut, chopped hazelnuts, cacao powder, chopped pistachios, grilled sesame seeds, matcha powder, chopped goji berries...


  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. 
  2. Spread the nuts across a baking sheet and roast for 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool before finely chopping them.
  3. In a food processor, mix the dates with the organge juice and zest, vanilla, cacao powder and salt. The mixture should be smooth and creamy but strong enough to hold itself in a ball. Add the chopped nuts and mix some more.
  4. In a bain marie, melt the chocolate and then mix it in with the date mixture. Let sit in the fridge for a few hours.
  5. Form truffles into compact balls using a melon baller. Roll the balls in the garnish of your choice. Once finished, keep the balls in a small box or airtight container in the fridge.
