Preparing these frozen cubes of fruit purée for your morning smoothie or to flavour cold water is easy as can be! Hydration, as we all know, is super important for our health, but sometimes, especially in the summer heat, a plain glass of water just isn't going to cut it! Flavoured waters are a great way to mix things up when you need to hydrate.
Summer is a great time to profit from the abundance of affordable, in-season fruits and vegetables, and integrate them even further into your diet by using them in beverages. Kids will love these multi-coloured flavoured cubes. As they melt, they slowly colour the water, so your little ones can pick out their favourite flavour and colour combos. They're also an easy way to get a little chia into your daily diet, making your quotidian glass of water a cool treat that's rich in fibre, antioxidants, minerals, and omega-3 fatty acids. No need to turn to sugary juices! These cubes have got your hydration and fruit fix down!

How It's Made

  • 2 cups of fruit purée (mango, cantaloupe, strawberries, watermelon, etc.)
  • Water, as needed
  • 2 tablespoons of

  1. With the help of a hand mixer, purée each type of fruit separately until smooth. Add water if needed if the purée is too thick (specifically, this may occur with the strawberry and mango purées). The purée needs to be watery enough so that it freezes evenly, but thick enough that it holds the chia seeds in place, so they don't float to the surface.
  2. Pour the purées into a jar, or a tupperware with a tight-fitting lid. Add the chia seeds and vigourously shake. Let sit for a few minutes and shake again so the chia is evenly mixed into the purée, and pour into ice cube trays. Freeze for 2 hours.
  3. Transfer the frozen cubes into a freezer-safe bag or container and enjoy in smoothies or flavoured waters.
