Citrus lemonade with turmeric-ginger syrup

There's nothing quite as nice as preparing homemade lemonade the moment the temperature starts to ride. This recipe is a simple combination of citrus juice mixed with a homemade turmeric and ginger-flavoured simple syrup. Once you try it with lemonade, you'll be looking for other ways to use up this spicy-sweet syrup, whether it's in cocktails or drizzled over ice cream and frozen yogurt. It'll keep for up to 10 days in the refrigerator - let us know what you think!

How it's made: Turmeric and ginger syrup


  • 1 cup of cane sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of fresh grated turmeric (or 1/2 teaspoons of ground turmeric), or more to taste
  • 2 tablespoons of grated ginger, or more to taste
  • 2 cups of water


  1. Put all the ingredients in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium and let simmer until the mix is a syrup, about 15 minutes. Stir regularly with a wooden spoon.
  2. Let cool and pour into a small bottle or mason jar.
  3. The syrup will keep for 2 weeks in the refrigerator.

How it's made: Citrus lemonade


  • 1 cup of citrus juice, freshly squeezed (lemon, lime, orange)
  • 4 cups of water
  • 4 tablespoons of turmeric-ginger syrup
  • 5 ice cubes


  1. Mix all the ingredients together in a blender.
  2. The lemonade will keep in the fridge for several days.
