BBQ sweet potatoes with crunchy nut & herb sauce

Sweet potatoes are so versatile. Whether fried, mashed, in a smoothie (oh yeah! Believe it!), in desserts, baked or twice-baked, they're always a favorite. But summer is the time to make them on the BBQ! With it's delicious, sweet taste and gorgeous orange flesh, the sweet potato is a root vegetable that should be on everyone's plate, and because of their delectable flavor, they're always a hit with kids. In an appetizer or as dessert, there's always room for sweet potatoes. In this recipe, sweet potatoes are grilled for just a few minutes, and topped with a delicious sauce full of fresh herbs and crunchy nuts. Try it once, and it'll become your go-to side for your summer barbecues! Sweet potatoes are rich in vitamin A, which contributes to the health of the eyes, skin, and immune system in children, and is essential for the all-too quickly-growing bodies of kids!

How It's Made: BBQ'd sweet potatoes


  • 2 large sweet potatoes
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon of sea salt
  • ¼ teaspoon of smoked paprika
  • 1 pinch of chili powder
  • Fresh ground pepper


  1. Cut the sweet potatoes lengthwise into thin slices
  2. Mix the oil, spices, salt and pepper in a large bowl, and add the sweet potato slices. Mix with your hands. 
  3. Place the sweet potato slices on the grill of your barbecue or a very hot grill pan. Grill for 4 to 5 minutes each side.
  4. While the sweet potatoes are on the grill, prepare the herb sauce.

How It's Made: Crunchy Nut-Herb Sauce


  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 4 to 5 sprigs of fresh mint
  • 4 to 5 sprigs of Italian (flat-leaf) parsley
  • Sea salt and ground pepper
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • sunflower
  • 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons of
  • 3 tablespoons of
  • ¼ cup of coarsely chopped


  1. Mince the garlic, finely chop the herbs, and mix with the other ingredients. 
  2. On a large serving platter, arrange the grilled sweet potato slices, drizzle with the nut-herb sauce, and serve.
