Almond, cumin and turmeric popcorn

Why buy a popcorn mix at the store when you can make one at home in under 10 minutes? You don't need to be an ace in the kitchen to come up with a delicious snack. This recipe makes a great treat for a night in with a movie, a simple afternoon snack, or even as a side or topping for soups and salads. When making a nutritious gourmet popcorn topping, look for a mix of flavourful ingredients like nutritional yeast, spices, fresh herbs and nuts. How it's made


  • 1/3 cup of (or a mix: , , )
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground cumin
  • 1/4 cup of nutritional yeast
  • A few generous pinches of sea salt
  • Ground pepper
  • 2 tablespoons of virgin coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup of popping corn
  • 3 tablespoons of virgin coconut oil for finishing


  1. In the bowl of your food processor, ground the nuts into a fine powder for several seconds, then add the spices, nutritional yeast, salt and pepper and mix for several seconds. Set aside. I
  2. n a large saucepan, melt the 2 tablespoons of virgin coconut oil over medium heat.
  3. Once the oil is hot, add the popping corn and put a strainer large enough to cover the pan on top to stop the corn from flying everywhere as it pops.
  4. Wait until the first kernels pop, and then begin shaking the pan while still holding the strainer firmly on top. Let the kernels pop, shaking every 5 or 6 seconds.
  5. Once the corn has stopped popping, transfer it into a large bowl, and toss with the rest of the melted coconut oil. Sprinkle with the nut and spice mix.
  6. Mix so that the popcorn is well coated.
