Lentils are considered a staple food for a reason - they're ultra nutritious, cheap, and can be prepared in just about a million ways (from salads to soups, stews, and dhal). While most dried legumes require hours of soaking prior to cooking, lentils are the exception to that rule. All they need is a good rinse under cold water and to be cooked for about 20 minutes (just make sure they don't turn into purée). Making this sloppy joe recipe is super easy - all you need is some garlic, onion, and spices simmered in tomato sauce. Within a few minutes, the spices warm up and the flavors come out. While this delicious sloppy joe filling goes great with any type of burger bun, it's extra delicious in our sweet potato and turmeric buns.
