Vegan "goldfish" crackers

These cheesy and salty snack crackers are incredibly delicious. They get a cheesy flavour from nutritional yeast (it's so useful in recipes it might as well be called 'vegan gold'), and a sunny yellow colour from turmeric. If you've never used it before, nutritional yeast has a nutty taste that can be used to add flavour to sauces, salads, vegan cheeses, and crackers. Whether it's yellow or beige, in soft flakes or ""sprinkle"" form, it's rich in B vitamins - specifically vitamin B12, which is particularly important in a vegan diet. It also is a good source of fibre and amino acids. No need to run out and buy a fish-shaped cookie cutter when you try this recipe - we made these shapes with just the tip of a knife! Try it yourself for some unique and tasty results.

How it's made


  • 1 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 4 tablespoons of nutritional yeast
  • 1/4 teaspoon of onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon of
  • Ground pepper to taste
  • 5 tablespoons of
  • 3 tablespoons of cold water


  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, nutritional yeast, onion powder, turmeric, salt and pepper. Add the coconut oil, mix well, and then add the water.
  3. On a lightly floured working surface, make a ball of dough and then roll it out. Use the tip of a knife or a cookie cutter to make a fish shape (or the shape of your choice).
  4. Transfer your crackers to a baking sheet covered in parchment paper or a silicone sheet. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, depending on the size of your crackers.
  5. Let cool completely and store in a plastic bag or a tightly sealed container.
