Soak a cup of hemp seeds in water for at least 4 hours. Drain and rinse.
Put the soaked hemp seeds in a blender with 4 cups of cold water and mix until the hemp seeds are pulverized.
Using a nut milk bag filter the milk into a clear glass jar with a lid. If you don't have a nut milk bag, a cheesecloth or natural cotton will work just fine.
Rinse the blender, then pour the filtered milk back in and add the cacao powder, maple syrup and vanilla essence. Blend until smooth and homogeneous.
The milk can be stored in the fridge for 4-5 days. If it separates, shake the jar for a few seconds.
