Native to Central Asia and introduced by the Arabs during their 8th century conquest of Spain, the European almond was widely used in Europe during the Middle Ages to prepare both soups and sweet desserts.
Almonds are naturally sweet and can be eaten raw or flavoured for a healthy snack. Chop and grind them up to add them to your cakes, cereal and muesli or even in your smoothies. Raw European almonds are also the perfect nut for making almond milk.
Can be preserved in a cool, dry cupboard, protected from light and humidity for up to 12 months or up to 18 months if stored in the refrigerator.

The almond tree has always been associated with fertility. It was the Romans who established the tradition of throwing almonds at the bride, to encourage plenty of offspring, a custom which continues today in various parts of Europe.
