Naturally sweet and delicious

Our pitted organic Deglett dates are an excellent sweetener in recipes as well as the main ingredient in the infamous date squares.

They also make for a great quick snack before and after intense physical activity due to their high fibre, potassium, iron and magnesium content. They are known to promote muscle regeneration, promote digestive health, act as an anti-inflammatory and reduce blood pressure and stroke risk.

Organic Deglett dates have a chewier, somewhat drier texture than Medjool dates, making them our go-to dates for baking. This succulent fruit can be paired with many different flavours in recipes from around the world. Its delicate, smooth and sweet aroma will definitely make a statement when featured in any dish.

History

Archaeological evidence suggests the date palm, on which dates grow, was cultivated as early as 7,000 BCE in Mehrgarh, a neolithic civilization in what is now Pakistan. It is believed to originate from an area that is now Iraq, and was a staple food in the Middle East, from Mesopotamia to prehistoric Egypt. This tree was synonym of oasis when in the desert.

Culinary Uses

The Deglett date is super sweet, with a texture that's drier and chewier than the Medjool date. It's a healthy and nutritious snack, perfect for a post-workout bite or curbing sugar cravings. It can also be used as a replacement sweetener in smoothies, and other sweet dishes. Its texture makes it the perfect ingredient for baking, especially to make date squares!

Preservation

Be careful of fermentation! Dates contain sugar which means they need to be conserved in a cold and dry cupboard, away from humidity. You can also put them in your fridge. If stored properly, dates can be kept for up to 8 months.

The dates themselves were amazing, but as I had opened my pack and not yet tried one I was reading the nutrition label that said per serving (2 cups - 40 grams) I looked at the size of the pack and thought oh so it must be the serving size is the whole pack! There's no way there's more then 2 cups in here, then I flipped the pack around to read the size on the front which read 250 g.... by that measurement the bag should have looked more then twice the size! I was curious to see whether or not I was just way off with my estimate, but nope, dumped them all out into a measuring cup and the entire pack came out just short of 2 cups... which makes absolutely no sense! How can the serving size say 2 cups is equivalent to 40 g, and then he front of the bag say entire contents is 250 g, but then the entire contents falls short of 2 cups? Something is not right here
