Chia seeds (Salvia Hispanica) originate from the central valleys of Mexico and has been known and used for over 5,000 years. It was used as a survival food by the Aztecs - it was said that a tablespoon of chia could keep a warrior strong for 24 hours. It was also used as an offering to the gods.

Culinary Uses

Chia is so easy to integrate to your diet! Its taste is mild and won’t alter the flavour of your dishes. Add chia to your favourite cereal, yogurt, smoothies, juices, cakes, soups, sauces, salads, dressings.

Do you have an egg allergy?
Chia seeds are an excellent substitute for eggs! Soak 1 tablespoon of ground chia seeds in 3 tablespoons of water for each egg your recipe requires.


Preserve in a cool dry place protected from light and humidity for up to 12 months.



Did You Know?

One serving (2 tbsp) of chia meets 230% to 350% of your daily plant-based omega-3 (ALA). Since the body isn’t capable of building this type of fatty acid, which is essential for brain function, it’s important to get a good quantity of it in your diet. Chia seeds are a good source of healthy fats and a quarter of this is ALA fatty acids.

I love chia seeds and I use them in many dishes. My favorite one is Peach Pudding. I add Chia seeds and they absorb the extra liquid coming out of the peaches as they bake. Delicious! And my guests are always wondering what these black gellied balls are in the pudding!
