Nutty Turmeric Sweet Potato Soup

This sweet and nutty soup has an exotic flair with its addition of turmeric and harissa. These ingredients along with the flavour of sweet potatoes make this soup as heart-warming as it is exotic in taste.

How It's Made


  • 2 tbsp coconut oil
  • 2 cups leek(s)
  • 2 tbsp blanched almond butter
  • 1 1/2 tbsp harissa paste
  • 2 garlic clove(s), minced
  • 1 1/2 tbsp ground turmeric
  • 3/4 tsp ground cumin seeds
  • 2 sweet potato(es)
  • 3 1/2 cups vegetable broth
  • 1 tbsp slivered almonds
  • sea salt and pepper to taste


  1. Sauté leeks in coconut oil over medium-high heat in a large pot. After 5 to 7 minutes, stir in almond butter, harissa, garlic, turmeric, and cumin. Cook for 1 minute while stirring constantly.
  2. Add sweet potatoes, broth, and 1 1/2 cups water. Partially cover the pot, and let simmer over medium-low heat, until sweet potatoes are tender (20-25 minutes).
  3. Blend ingredients together, adding more water if soup is too thick. Decorate with slivered almonds adding salt and pepper to taste.
